Designers Today: Form Us With Love

“We are driven by an idea-focused approach to design, where experimentation and cross-border projects are encouraged. Important aspects of our philosophy include durability, curiosity, and humanism.”

Form Us With Love is an international design studio based in Stockholm. It was founded by designers Jonas Pettersson and John Löfgren in 2005. Since its conception, the studio has burned with a passion for design and its democratic potential. Its belief is that we all have a right to meaningful design. They are part of our Designers Today section of stories.

Form us with love

At the studio’s core lies a process that blends traditional creative practices with a lean, strategic application. The central intention is to evolve with the needs of each project, its place in the market and the ever-changing needs of real people. Ranging from watches through lamps to furniture, their projects have won several prestigious awards such as the iF Product Design Award and Young Swedish Design Award.

Today, the work of Form Us With Love falls into three areas: Consultancy—an engagement in products, ranges, collaborations and spaces for clients around the world, Ventures—disciplined and holistic approaches to launch and build brands, Civic—based on knowledge transfers and sharing of experiences, actively contributing to the broader spectra of design.

“We are hopelessly influenced by our strong design heritage while at the same time being utterly tired of it. The result is a kind of tweaked functionalism. This is perhaps what shows in a lot of young Scandinavian designers’ work today—it’s great to see so much creativity spire among the young Scandinavian design community, holding the ambition to investigate new genres, materials, and expressions.”

As a studio, Form Us With Love has spent the past ten years repositioning brands through design. Utilizing progressive manufacturing techniques and nurturing on-going dialogues with each client, the studio has sculpted innovative collaborations with the likes of IKEA, Muuto, Absolut, Menu, La Cividina Cappellini, +Halle, DePadova, FontanaArte, Bolon, ateljé Lyktan, Design House Stockholm and Hem. Here are our favorites!

A quirky take on the industrial pendant lampshade, the Unfold Pendant Lamp is affordable and useful in any home or professional space. Made of soft silicon rubber, the pendant is available in a wide range of colors to brighten any room.

A storage unit and a table, position Cage Table next to the sofa or favourite armchair. The basket under the wooden table is ideal for storing magazines or blankets. Placing your items often becomes our daily rituals, habits and routines. The small objects that we carry tell our story and together form our individual distinctiveness. The cage family is inspired by behaviors. Where we put our objects in the home and how we store things. The Cage collection has a strong functional ambition while the pieces also become beautiful interior accessories.

” What does it mean to use a table as a piece of architecture? We wanted to explore the ability for a table to become an architecture tool, in the same way as we work with architects to configure bench seating in many of our public installations,” Martin Halle, Creative Director, at +Halle explains. The purpose of the Nest System table is to create a sense of community around a table in a similar fashion we often gather in a break out space.
