GIR Guide: Feel the Spring

Spring is here and it means one thing only! It’s time to give some extra love to our plants and bring the outdoors inside our homes! It’s time to feel the spring and enjoy your green oasis on your terrace or balcony or in your living room.

House plants are not just a trend, and their impact goes past just being esthetically pleasing. House plants can improve your mood, reduce stress, and increase productivity. In our store, we have a selection of plants in beautiful pots that are ready for you to take them home! You can visit our Plant corner during our working hours and find your perfect companion.

If you are new to any type of gardening and house plant caring, or if you have limited space and time, here are our tips and recommendations on how to get started!

Low Maintenance Plants for a Vibrant Living Room

We’ve talked before about the plants in our store and you can read more and get to know them here, but while that story was more focused on our plants and their maintenance, this time we are covering some tips and recommendations on how to style them in your home.

If you are a beginner we recommend opting out for more easy maintenance plants like Chinese Money plants, Sansevierias, Monstera Deliciosas or Succulents as these varieties of plants, need watering when the soil is dry, with easy lighting conditions, and will make a great addition to you home, or even a centerpiece in a living room, or bedroom.

When you decide which plants you want for your apartment, it’s also important to consider the pots and sizes as they are equally important for the home decor.

When thinking about repotting your plants, our most popular and loved pots are FermLiving’s Hourglass Pots. Shaped like an hourglass, these pots are so versatile and can be used for plants with deeper roots or vice versa. They come with a drainage hole so your plant would have just the right amount of water needed to flourish. It’s available at GIR Store in different sizes. If you are looking to elevate your plants, for safety reasons (if you have small children or pets) or if you just want to create a plant corner in your home that will be a great centerpiece next to a couch, we also can recommend you Plant Boxes by Ferm Living. These plant boxes come in different shapes and sizes as well as colors, so we believe that you will find your perfect match!

Fatboy Buggle Up

The Little Gardeners

One way of getting our youngest ones involved with cultivating an indoor garden is to teach them how to look after their plants, such as a kentia palm or parlour palm. They look impressive and don’t need very much attention. And besides, palms as houseplants have been very popular for over a century because they add subtle drama to a room and make us feel a little bit tropical while sitting on a couch watching TV or reading our favorite book. If you have a garden backyard or a terrace and want to give your little gardeners a tropical experience, give them a Fatboy Junior Beanbag for the ultimate comfort. Ultra-comfortable, specially designed for the most important people in the world. This children’s beanbag offers infinite ways to lounge, (p)lay, game, or sleep. The Fatboy Junior is solid because children tend to push the furniture to the limit. So as a parent no worries about keeping this children bean bag in shape.

Plants for small spaces

If you don’t have a garden or a balcony that doesn’t mean you have to miss out because even the tiniest space can be cheered up with plants. Look to the walls and windowsills for inspiration instead.

“Hanging a plant in your home is a terrific way to introduce some greenery without using up any floor space at all. You can hang them from the ceiling or put them on a high shelf.”

We recommend placing, for example, a Lipstick plant that has beautiful green leaves and if you take good care of it, it will bloom red flowers in springtime. Be aware though that misting every day is a must! You can hang it in your bathroom also, as it will thrive in humidity. If you are looking to add smaller plants into your home, you’ll need pots within their growth size! We’ve got you covered as in our store, we have a range of plant pots and plant stands, from Ferm Living plant stands and Plant Boxes, to Bau pots and Hexagon pots that would be ideal for a succulent or small cactus. If you have a pet that likes to nibble on your plants, it’s best to choose ones that are pet-safe.

Furniture for your green oasis

If you have a small garden or a big terrace, it’s spring time and time to think about your patio furniture, that will make you spend the entire spring and summer (and a good part of the fall) outside enjoying the nature around you

We recommend using an outdoor carpet so you can extend the pleasure of walking barefoot from your living to your garden this Spring. The Fatboy Carpet Diem outdoor rug is designed together with Jordy van den Nieuwendijk, a Dutch artist whose work is known for its distinctive use of color and shape. Carpet Diem is made from 100% polypropylene. This king-sized designer rug is, therefore, both highly durable and lightweight, making it easier to move around. Carpet Diem brings quality and luxury together in an amazing pattern.
